The story of designers and artists we have met during our travels. What many of them have in common is that they have followed their dream to get where they are.
One of my greatest discoveries in Denmark was, without a doubt, to find the Tone Barker Silk shop. Every time, when I visit Copenhagen, I make it one of my priorities to visit this beautiful shop in Vestergade 11. It is like entering a fairytale wonderland of silk dresses. And for a person like me that adores pretty dresses, it is a true heaven.
Some years ago I walked into a local clothes shop and became fascinated by some dresses. I ended up buying one but it can only be fair to say that buying a dress at that time, was really out of my character. At that point, I started to develop my flair for dresses. I became curious to know more about the maker of these dresses and the lady in the shop told me that the designer was Icelandic. That all fitted together as the dresses were like molded for Icelandic circumstances.
One of our favorite place in Cape Town is the Watershed market at V&A Waterfront. It is a great place to buy a souvenir to bring home from South Africa. It is also fun to wander around the market looking at different design and art. All the items we have seen there are made locally in South Africa. One specific designer at the market really caught our attention. The charisma and energy around her was almost touchable.
