Hi! 🙂 My name is Ingibjörg, most of the time called Inga when outside of Iceland, my home country.
Since I remember myself, I have always loved traveling, visiting new places and meeting new people. As I grew up, I made it one of my top priorities. Sometimes I would travel to discover new places, other times to visit friends. Having lived abroad in different countries for 14 years, my friends are now spread all over the planet.
A collector of favorites and memories
When you meet me or read what I write, you will often hear me tell you about my favorite!
I love to travel to new places, but I also love to find my favorite places. Where I want to come back. And I want to tell all my friends about it and would like everyone to experience it. Which is one of the reasons I am sharing those experiences and suggestions with you here. 🙂
One of my expertise is finding the best and most special places to stay. The best accommodation, be it a hotel, apartment or a guesthouse. My friends often ask me either, how do you do it, or can we please join you for your next trip. This is another reason, I want to share them here at Eccentric Traveler, for all of you to enjoy.
Most of my favorite experiences include when I am traveling and I get to experience the local life and customs and feel the atmosphere of the place.
Born with wanderlust, not one passion
I was not born with one strong passion, as I used to feel so many around me were. In high school, I chose the study line that would keep the most doors open. After that, I wanted to travel before I would decide what else to study. I started by studying Spanish in Spain and Costa Rica, working in Cambridge to become better in English and then working in Barcelona to improve my Spanish. At that point, I could feel the need to study something more.
Copenhagen – unexpectedly home for 10 years
I found a study in Copenhagen that fitted my interest in math, cultures and languages perfectly, which brought me to Copenhagen, Denmark. What should have been 3 years, ended up being 10 years in the city. During the time I traveled whenever possible, including half a year of exchange in both Uruguay and France. I however never really settled down, I made sure not to collect too many things, as I knew that at some point my nomadic nature would kick in again.
Just before giving in my master thesis I wrote down a list of what my dream job should include. I also made a detailed plan of the places I was going to visit and live in until I would find my dream job.
I strongly believe, that when you put your wish out to the universe, it has a way to get fulfilled. Which became true with my dream job, before I had finished my master thesis, a friend sent me an advertisement he had seen, which was basically a description of what I had written down on my list.
I took one day off from writing my master thesis to write the application, everything happened very fast and before I had even done the defense of my thesis, I had already started the training for my then dream job.
The need to start traveling again
If you have ever lived in Scandinavia, you will know that plans are a big part of the lifestyle. It is the same in Copenhagen, people plan a lot and far ahead so my life started to be packed with plans all the time. My job was very fun but extremely intense, and as I was passionate about it, I was working way more hours than my contract asked me to.
I basically new my 24/7 plans atleast a month ahead. Which made me feel that time was going way too fast.
My wanderlust started to grow stronger and stronger. The first step was a drastic change of plans for me. I moved back home to Iceland, I got offered a transfer with the company I worked for, at the right time. The main reason for my decision was that my grandmother had been diagnosed with cancer, which she thankfully is cured of today. I needed to be more near to family.
After spending one year in Iceland, having time with family and friends, helping the company I worked for settle better, I felt that the timing was right to start traveling again. My aunt and I had ideas that fitted very well together. We decided to move into a suitcase and dedicate our time to an idea we had started to develop during our travels in South America one year ago.
We want to share our passion for traveling, the best places we find and the stories we come across.
Thank you for reading and getting to know me better! I love getting to know new people, so feel free to comment, write to us and reach out!
Welcome to Eccentric Traveler!
I hope you will enjoy the stories and experiences we are sharing. 🙂
